Until the 1900s, much of what is now thought to be child abuse was not considered illegal or even immoral. Children as young as five and six years old regularly worked long hours in factories or mines, performing dangerous tasks. Society and government seek both to protect children from abuse and to defend the rights of the family. Weighing those two goals and determining which is more important in a particular situation poses a serious challenge.

It's sad to hear that hundreds of thousands of children are abused in the United States. Many reasons why child are abused are because their parents are either druggies, teenagers, can't take care of them because of finical issues. i hate hearing and reading about young children being abused because they cant do anything to protect and save themselves.
ReplyDeleteI think it is crazy how the times have changed and the laws got more serious. Children should never be abused under any circumstances. Children should be protected from the government because sometimes the kids aren't strong enough to stick up for themselves. Oh yeah, I love you Dilly :)
ReplyDeleteI think child abuse is one of the saddest things I've ever heard. My mother was a severe victim of child abuse growing up, and is now traumatized from it. She was mentally and physically abused for almost 16 years. I have sympathy for anyone who goes through this, because it really is a terrible thing.
ReplyDeleteChild Abuse is such a horrible thing. Its so sad to see kids go through this by people who are close to them. They are going to have those mental or physical scares forever, and it may effect their outcome in life.

Thats not right, children shouldn't be abused in anyway. It's good that they have redefined child abuse because more and more children would be hurt if they didn't.

ReplyDeleteI look at my little 5 year old daughter and think the best part about being a dad is to be able to see the total absence of stress and fear in her eyes. I realize a lot has changed over time. But, I also think a lot of the abuse or joy of childhood has to do with the culture. You could do a little research about cultures around world and see which ones are doing good or bad stuff things to their children.

it is very sad to hear about all the cases of child abuse. When I think of child abuse I think of something that happened very long ago with making them do adult work for no pay. However, it's still going on today with parents beating their child. This must get stopped because some of the children are afraid to go and tell someone for fear of getting beaten more.

ReplyDeleteChild Abuse is wrong and should not even be thought of. During the 1800s children were working long hours which is unacceptable. Now during this time child abuse is still occurring involving parents, and or other people such as strangers.

ReplyDeleteI think even though times and laws have changed a lot with child abuse, it is still happening now just in different ways than earlier in time. I think it is wrong to abuse your child in any way.
